My journey from JBIMS campus to a member fund management team @ SBI Mutual Fund has been a thrilling roller coaster.
Over the years I have been “learning on the job” in a finance. Having worked with 11 organizations over 25 years – with the longest stint in my current job, the field of investing has complemented my curiosity and kept be young, and relevant to the current scenarios. Some of the job changes were by choice and some by compulsion. With three jobless breaks in between – each a teacher in its own when it comes to business of life. The MMS marketing from JBIMS enabled me to work with CRISIL as MT. Almost as an extension of the institute, the stint added to a way of looking business that was unique and ahead of its time. Over these years, I have been fortuous to work with great organizations like ENAM, KOTAK, GE Capital, and Jardine Fleming in capital Markets and Welspun in a manufacturing industry. In hindsight, one could not have asked for a more complete mix of these roles which contributed for a rare and distinct blend of professional competence and satisfaction in terms of diversity, intensity and relevance. While an evolution of being a focused fund manager was taking shape on professional front, being father of Twin Brothers has helped molding me in an august but demanding company of my parents and spouse who is teacher at heart. To keep pace with the demanding roles at work and home, I found solace in continuous learning through reading and sharing. I fall back on my personal library of over 450 titles from various walks of life – at the moments of confusion, duress, ecstasy and peace. The diverse exposure in the workplaces has also created a supportive and contributory network of nice human-beings as well as professionals, whom I keep seeking help in critical moments. I have been attempting a balance to my existing profession to helping shape young minds. It is always joyous to share the learnings with students in one-on-one and class room settings. I have been fortunate to be on advisory panel at Rizvi Institute of Management where I take regular sessions (they call it “Investments”!!) as visiting faculty for last 9 years. It is a special moment when an MMS (Marketing) teaches Investments to finance students…J My vision of life is to own a fund which would work for me round the clock so that one can spend time in the manner and place of his choice – sharing the love, knowledge and wealth that gets bestowed in the process. |
